New Moon in 2 Aquarius 42, January 23, 2012, 2:39 am EST

New Moon in Aquarius arrives in the wee hours of the morning on Monday, and before the day is over, Mars will be turning retrograde (7:54 pm EST) at 23 Virgo, in close trine to Mercury at 24 Capricorn. Sounds like a LOT of talking about...what? Since Mars could be said to be contrary, turning backward, as he is, it may not all be happy talk, regardless of the trine. Try to keep mind that Aquarius is about that "Age of Aquarius" time projected for brotherly (and sisterly) love, and keep it friendly! It's also about friends and groups

This New Moon is also the beginning of the Chinese New Year, and this is the year of the Dragon—the Water Dragon, that I've heard said is one who can see things from other points of view.

This could be a great New Moon to organize a group activity—despite Mars retrograde! Rather than being concerned about how the Mars slowdown might be "bad," why not make it into something good, and direct that sense of Aquarian universal love toward working for a cause that helps where help is needed. Get together with some friends to brainstorm what you might do together. Do a little candle magic to charge your plan, then do it!

Ritual for New Moon in Aquarius
After you've discussed and chosen a project, choose a symbol for the group goal and purpose (brochure, photo, statement of purpose—whatever is meaningful to the intent. Have a white candle, some anointing oil and incense, plus something to carve into the candle (strong toothpicks will work). Prepare copies of the chant below so all can do it together.

When the group meets, first sit in a circle and talk over your plan for action, as you pass the candle around while each person carve a symbol on the candle that is meaningful to him or her in regard to the group intent. Then pass around oil for each to anoint the candle. (Rosemary or vanilla oils are good for power and vitality in what you all intend to accomplish.) Light incense and then have each person pass the candle through it. Then light the candle and all circle around it, chanting the charm, three times three. Build the energy slowly, than faster to a climax.

Moon Goddess, bless this work we do
Lend your power and guidance true
By all the light of Sun and Moon
May progress on our goal come soon.
Charge our intent that it may be
Accomplished with good energy!
By all the power of three times three
This is our will, so mote it be!

Crescent Moon, 21 Pisces 31, January 26 at 8:57 pm EST
Today began Ok, but tonight may feel a bit down—serious thinking, maybe, Mercury applying to square Saturn in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. Mercury will leave Pisces and enter Aquarius in the afternoon, though. Get together with friends for a chat!

First Quarter Moon, 10 Taurus 41, January 30 at 11:10 am EST
This phase is mixed, so not easy to predict. As the day begins, things may feel testy or confusing. It's the phase of action—a time to get things done, though. The way clears somewhat in the afternoon, and tomorrow looks to go more smoothly. Be calm, and do what you need to do. If alone works best, so be it.

Full Moon, 18 Leo 32, February 7, at 4:54 pm EST
Notable among the planets at this Full Moon: Saturn turned retrograde this morning, and Venus enters Aries tomorrow.

Ritual for Full Moon in Leo
Leo is a sign very associated with creativity (as is House 5, Leo's natural house). So, let's use this Full Moon to charge a creative project—yours alone, or gather a group and tell them all to bring a project they want to charge with energy and share. Just this alone is an act that can add magical energy. Compliments and expressed interest can be very encouraging! So, first just invite everyone informally show and share their projects. Then, when you're ready to do work magic on your projects, if at all possible go where you can actually see the Moon—outdoors if possible—or if you're in a very wintery snowy area, a window. Or, you can always visualize the bright Full Moon. Each person should place his or her project beneath the Moon and then draw the lunar energy toward it, influsing it with magical intent. Say together:

By the power of creative fire, oh Lady Moon, I do invoke thee
To descend upon this, my art, my expression!
Charge it and me to the height of fulfillment. So mote it be!

Then have everyone place their projects in a center place where you can gather around them, join hands and together chant the following phrase nine times, building in speed and intensity:

Full Moon bright, energy, charge our creativity...

At energy peak, everyone hold palms out over the assembled creative work and send energy into it. Conclude with:

By all the power of three times three, this is our will, so mote it be!

Disseminating Moon, 6 Libra 58, February 11 at 2:31 am EST
For most of this day and into tomorrow noon we're heading into pleasant trines, with the final aspect Moon conjunct Saturn. That final aspect suggests taking care of what needs to be responsibly done, but we can do that !

Last Quarter Moon, 25 Scorpio 24, February 14 at 12:04 pm EST
It's Valentine's day, and the phase of crisis of consciousness—what can that mean? Aspects are rather testy, while Moon remains in Scorpio. But with Scorpio strength get over it, and do something really Valentine nice for someone, or several someones, and make the day bright!

Balsamic Moon,13 Capricorn 58, February 18 at 12:45 am EST
Our lunar cycle draws to a close once again, and things that may have felt confused feel clearer. Here's ritual that can give even more clarity, on every level, along with healing.

A Practical Ritual of Release for Capricorn's Balsamic Moon
This is a practical sign, so here's a ritual to serve a mundane purpose that can, at the same tiem, help with emotional and spiritual banishing and healing.

Choose any area in which you've accumulated stuff for longer than you can remember, such that you no longer even know what all is there—that place where you may have said dozens of times, "I've got to clean that out," but somehow you never get it done. Well, do it now. Give the job the magical will and intent to also serve a practical purpose. This is an active meditation, and you might be surprise what thoughts it will conjure! Set your intent by lighting a black candle to burn while you work. Say:

Goddess of the waning Moon
Guide my work that I will see
The things and thoughts I do not need
And banish them—away from me!

Sort through the clutter and throw away anything for which you no longer have any use. If you find something useful, or just misplaced, then take it immediately to where it belongs. If you find something that someone else can and would use, put it where you cannot miss taking it to that person the very next time you go out. Don't stop until your intended area is completely clear. As you work, you'll think about whatever has been bothing you. You can name things you find in your cluttered area that correspond to each concern, so that the choices you make to either throw away or keep and commit to use if effectively empower your innner process. As you get up to deal with a thing you want to keep, that helps you think throuogh how you'll effectvely deal with the thing you named it for. As you toss into the trash a thing you don't want or need, exhale with relief as you release its corresponding worry.

After your once cluttered place is clear and clean, thank the Goddess, extinguish the candle and then take and wastebasket you've filled with things discarded out of your house and out of your mind. Keep the place you've cleaned absolutely empty until after New Moon, to give yourself time to decide what really should occupy that space that will best keep it as a useful and uncluttered area.
