New Moon in 2 Capricorn 34, December 24, 2011, 1:06 pm EST

New Moon in Capricorn arrived on Christmas Eve—and apologies to those who've checked in and found that I'm late with writing about it.

This New Moon, charged with excitement —and/or tension—has a close square from Uranus to Sun-Moon in House 9. There's also a wide conjunction of that Sun-Moon to Pluto and a very nice close trine to Jupiter in House 2. In one way or another all this can be quite descriptive of a lot of the last minute holiday rush, travel and communica-tion activities of the season. A sextile of Sun-Moon to Neptune adds to that holiday magic. Then, any potential stress that might be suggested by Saturn on the 7th cusp is perhaps softened by the close trine from Neptune.

On Christmas Day, at 5:09 pm EST, Jupiter, the "Great Benefic," which has been retrograde since late August, turned direct in motion. Progress should now become more evident, especially so in any area ruled by Jupiter—the 9th House, where this New Moon has occurred. Matters of the 9th include education, legal matters, long distance travel and communication.

Even though the moment to greet New Moon in Capricorn has passes, New Moon phase is still with us for another day. So, especially if you have a matter associated with Jupiter/Ninth House, you might do this simple rite—best at dawn while facing the rising Sun. Moon may not be see in his brightness, but she is there, rising with him, still conjunct.

Ritual for New Moon in Capricorn, Jupiter Direct
Face the rising Sun and Moon, cross your arms over your heart, and bow deeply to the dawn light. Then stretch your arms up as high as you can reach. Stand on your tiptoes—stretch—then spread your arms out as widely as you can reach. Take three long, deep breaths, inhaling slowly and then blowing the air slowly outward through your mouth. Then speak to Lord and Lady of your intent—your hopes and plans for this New Moon. Close with your thanks for their presence in your life, and this verse:

Queen of Night and Lord of Day
I rise at dawn, glorious sight.
I feel your presence in my soul
With energy and light.
Born this day, new month, new year
Waxing light of hope, of birth
Charge my will, my mind, my heart
To serve your purpose on this Earth.
Live within me, guide my path"
To be the best that I can be
To work for growth and highest good,
This is my pledge, so mote it be!

Crescent Moon, 21 Aquarius 12, December 28 at 2:23 am EST
This first day of Crescent phase may seem subdued, tired or confusing at first—maybe the whole process of getting back "in gear" after the holiday, but by late afternoon and evening, energy begins to shift for the better and what was a problem may find solution, or resolution. What do you want to change? This is a time to decide on a course of action.

First Quarter Moon, 10 Aries 13, January 1, 2012 at 1:15 am EST
We must now remember to write 2012 instead of 2011, and, this is the phase for action! It begins in the wee hours of morning on Day #1 of the New Year. Take some time, then, just after "Happy New Year" to do this creative energy visualization and set a significant intent for this lunar phase cycle AND the entire year ahead!

Ritual for First Quarter Moon in Aries
Center yourself in meditation, then visualize yourself growing very tall. You are so tall that you can look down on your world and scan all that goes on there. You have super eyes that can not only see the big picture, but also zoom in on any part of it for detail. Enjoy the view, relax and play, imagining that you can rearrange things and try them out in different ways, just for fun, with no consequences until you definitely choose them to become reality. Look for opportunities—ways that you can make creative changes of benefit to what you are doing now, or hope to do. Allow yourself to dream and stretch a bit beyond present reality, but at the same time, make note of viable possibilities that occur to you as you are playing. Zoom in one that particularly interests you, and think seriously about if for a bit. Is this truly what you want? Then CHOOSE to take ACTION on it! Affirm your commitment to action with this charm, repeated three time three, building in speed and volume to charge your intent:

Ah ha! My goal I clearly see!
Yes! This I'll do, so mote it be!

Gibbous Moon, 29 Taurus 27, January 5, 2012, at 4:38 am EST
This phase begins before dawn during Moon's void of course aspect of square Neptune. She's soon to change signs, entering Gemini at 5:44 am. She then sextiles Uranus at 7:36 am. Will we awaken a bit restless? Perhaps. It might be a good time to have a pad and pencil at bedside, in case there's an interesting dream to record.

Full Moon at 18 Cancer 26, January 9, 2012, 2:30 am EST
It could feel like the proverbial "blue Monday" with Moon moving throughout the day toward her conjunction with Saturn (the void of course aspect at 9:25 pm EST). Also of interest in the chart of this Full Moon is the direct station of Eris, the new planet designated by the International Astronomical Union in 2006 that many, if not most, astrologers are still reluctant to include in their charts. The "Goddess of Discord" is, I suppose understandably, slow to win any popularity contests. She's at 21 Aries in House 6 of the Full Moon chart as set for Washington, DC, so when retrograde was moving toward the position of Full Moon. Now, turning direct, she moves away. So perhaps that's good for President (Sun) and the people (Moon), although she's still only 2 minutes past a perfect trine to Full Moon Midheaven. Midheaven represents President, party in power and national prestige in a mundane chart, and in Sun ruled Leo, perhaps more so. A trine from Eris, as demonstrated by Tom Canfield's research and book about Eris, Yankee Doodle Discord, is not good at all. She's most troublesome, so it goes, when she's pretending to be friendly. So, this may be worth keeping in mind as the news following Full Moon unfolds—another hint toward understanding the symbolism of this new planet.

Ritual for Full Moon in Cancer
After all the holiday activities, the close of the old year, the the cleaning up and putting away that always must be done then, a ritual purification and home protection working could make a good Full Moon rite.

Prepare a hot teapot with calming herbs of water correspondence. Some good choices that are even available in teabags include: blackberry (healing, protection), chamomile (purification, protection), lemon (purification, love) or raspberry (protection, love) and bring it to your ritual area along with a teacup, a large bowl, a pitcher of water, salt and a candle in a Moon color (white, silver or pale blue). Then begin your rite by creating sacred space, and then invoke Goddess and light the candle. Place the bowl on your altar in front of the candle and slowly pour water into it, as you invoke:

Oh cleansing waters, sparkling pure,
Flow of power, come to me,
Sacred waters, source of life
By Goddess' grace, blessed be.

Bless the salt by drawing a pentagram over it while saying:

Salt of Earth, I charge you now
Protective power, come to me.
To sacred waters I now blend
By Goddess' charge, now blessed be.

Sprinkle salt into the water and mix it with your fingers or your athame. Then pour a cup of tea into your teacup, and pour the rest of the tea into your bowl of water, saying:

Oh herbs of calm, protective power
In bowl and cup now come to me
Blessed and charged onto my will
By Goddess' grace, so mote it be.

Take few moments to drink the teac and meditate while gazing into the candle flame. Know that the safety and calmness you seek must begin within, in order for you to create it without. So, savor each sip of the calming herbal brew, while thinking of your blessings. When you are ready, carry your watery brew all around your home, dipping in your fingers to sprinkle a little as you go. If your bowl is too large to carry easily, you could dip a cupful at a time. While you are doing this, focus on warding your hom against what you do not want within it, for in sprinkling this brew you are also forming a psychic shield. When you come to any place where one might enter your home (door, window, vent, the phone, fax or computer) dip a finger into the brew and draw a small pentagram as an extra barrier. Keep focused on protection, that within your shielded area only those influences that you wish to welcome may enter, while disruptive influences will stay away. Focus on calmness and peace. when you are finished, return to your altar, take up the Goddess candle and carry it all around your home while repeating this chant:

Goddess, bless this home of mine
And all who dwell with me
Bless me, too, and keep us safe,
In peace and love, so mote it be.

Disseminating Moon, 7 Virgo 06, January 12 at 5:05 pm EST
Moon enters Virgo in the wee hours of this morning, and by the time we are up and beginning the work day, begins a nice string of trines, not just Moon, but also Sun trine Mars and Venus trine Saturn. By now we've probably fully transitioned from all the holiday activites and their aftermath. We get "down to business" in our usual daily work. Today and tomorrow should be good for productive activity, so let's take advantage of it!

Last Quarter Moon, 25 Libra 38, January 16 at 4:08 am EST
This week should start out amicably, though the shift to Moon in Scorpio late morning (EST) could a bit confusing or tense. Well, this is the Last Quarter "crisis of consciousness," but likely not as serious as that sounds. Moon is now waning, though—a better time to bring things to completion and clear up matters, than to initiate new ones.

Balsamic Moon,14 Sagittarius 07, January 19 at 2:31 pm EST
Sun squares Saturn today, and will change signs into Aquarius tomorrow. Moon aspects are mixed, and we may be feeling that way, too—uncertain about something. Well, it is the final waning lunar phase. and the work week is nearly over. So, let's bring to closure what we can. Make peace with someone if you've had an unresolved issue. Clean your desk or other work area. Do something relaxing that you enjoy this weekend. New Moon arrives on Monday.

A Ritual of Release—for either Last Quarter or Balsamic Phase
This probably best fits the Scorpio theme that begins during Last Quarter and continues into the first part of Balsamic phases, but that doesn't really matter. What it suggests is that you can make "letting go" into a spiritual rite—and get some physical things cleaned up in the process!

Begin in meditation as you take an honest look at whatever in your space or in your thoughts that no longer serves you. "Clean house," inside and out. Gather up whatever you no longer need—old papers, worn out things that are really no good anymore, and trash them. Look for clothes you no longer wear but are still in good condition, or other items that you really don't want any more, pack them up and take them to a charity . Believe me! This is a very freeing process—one that I did not too long ago, and am so glad I did.

"Clean house" inside, too. If you are holding onto bad feelings toward someone, then take the intiative to restore good feelings and communication again. Trust that doing this process—both the physical work of cleaning, and taking the intiative to mend a relationship, are spiritual and magical actions that will bring you to a place of inner serenity and peace that propel you fully into the new year of 2012 feeling good, and ready to do your part to make it a great year ahead!
